Can you forget a language once you learned it?

I want to know if it worth it for me to invest a few years in learning a language. For example, I used to figure skate and it was worth it because even that I haven't skate in over 2 years. Last weekend I skated with a couple of my friends and I still can do the axel. What I mean is I never forget. How about a language?
