Ernest Hemingway?

I have just read the first 60 or so pages of 'For whom the bell tolls' and I couldn't get in to it at all. Does it get any better? I am patient and will struggle through if I think it is going to be worth it but the story just wasn't drawing me in. Alternatively can anyone recommend any other Hemingway books that you have read that I might find more interesting (I realise this is fairly subjective!)?
