How tight should a chin strap/ throat latch be?

well you need it loose enough so you dont choke them but it needs to be tight enough so you have sontrol of the whole bridle...i think you should only be able to fit your pinky in the space, the whole hand thing sounds quite extreme. BUT when youre in a lesson you do things how the instructor wants them done. i think you should do things your way on your own time.
