I just bought a fish tank now it smells?

I just bought a fish tank just about 2 days ago... 3 days later it starts to smell there's no fish yet. It's 10 gallon tank and instead of gravel or marbles I got rocks from the ocean and placed them in the tank... could that be the reason? I live in the tropics and it's very warm and humid...
