In need of advice from people who dnt know me or my ex..?

My ex an i were together for 2 and a half yrs n he broke up wif me 2 and half yrs ago, to cut a long story short we have both made our mistakes in the relationship and towards the end i held a grudge on him for his mistake, n i can see now that i pushed him away this was never my intention but now its too late, we have been tlkn n he says he just needs to be with his friends right now, but i just dont understand how you can go from being that in love with sum1 to just being friends with them and doing your own thing, we were so close and so in lov with each other every body saw it and always commented i love him and miss him and i want him back in my life.
