My young sister just died suddenly, any legal reasons for her lawyer to be at burial? ?
She may have a smallish estate, we pretty much umed this firm will bill the estate away (my sis was bipolar and an alcoholic and we feel like these same lawyers took advantage of her weak mind courting her and taking large legal retainers when they couldn't save her from the legal messes her bad decisions put herself in), but a lawyer and another from the office came to the burial. They grimly introduced themselves and stood back giving me the opinion they were overseeing and judging us. Their appearance could have conceivably been out of respect, but it didn't look at all friendly. None of us are after what little money there is left, as she has a teen son that it will go to (whatever is left, can't imagine there is much as her mental disorder created irrational spending and she hasn't been able to work in YEARS ). Do you think its possible that they were intentionally trying to be intimidating to dissuade any attempted claims to her estate? (not that there would be any) The one that wasn't a lawyer was nasty to my sis-in-law when we notified them of the death saying "you ARE going to give her a decent funeral aren't you?" My sis may have told them some untruths in regards to many things but their entire response has seemed greatly inappropriate. Anyone have similar experiences with lawyers? I'm just trying to sort out whether their appearance and seemingly distasteful attitude is a personal thing, or some sort of legal maneuvering.
