What is the best way to get Purina Alpo canned dog food out of the can?

I am petsitting for a neighbor and this is the kind of food they feed their dog and it is INSANELY hard to get it out of the can. Yesterday I was banging on the side of the can for about 20 minutes with a water bottle and it still barely came out. Should I use like a screwdriver or something and just stick it in and mince it up and pull it out? Please help!
